Comparative Study of Variables and Nursing History of Newborn Infants and their Mothers

Abstract
This study was attempted to survey and review comparatively the variables and nursing history of 295 newborns and their mothers hospitalized in Nursery & Delivery room during Nov. 1995-Jan. 1996 and acquired the following conclusions.
@ES 1. Nursing history of the subjects
@EN The sex ratio was male:female=1.38:1. Mothers' clothes were pantaloons with elastic strings(45:4%) and one-piece types of long robes(54.6%). These have nothing with newborn's weight. The types of mothers' favorite foods were fruits and
vegetables(39.3%), general meats(19.7%), carbohydrate(10.2%) and fishes(5.1%).
The common saying "food types decide newborns' sex" was not supported. Normal delivery was 59.7%, Cesarean section was 31.5%. The latter portion increased considerably. Mothers' blood types had nothing with newborns' bilirubine levels.
@ES Variables of newborns and their mothers
@EN Mean weight was 3331.83g, height 5`.80cm, HC 34.18cm, CC 33.44cm. Above 3 variables except CC showed higher scores in males than females. The average physiological wt. loss was 84.67g. It was only 2.54% of the newborn weights. The glucose
level
of
delivery was 104.13 mg/dl, The bilirubin level of the 3rd day was 8.12mg/dl. The APGAR of 1 minute was 8.61. The meconium and urine pass time were 10.84 and 11.72 hrs respectively. Especially, the meconium pass showed some difference according to
the
newborns' sexes and females showed earlier pass. The initial feeding amount was 37.49 ml, the one of the 3rd day jumped to 41.23ml. The average age of the mothers was 29.41 years, mean weight 65.44kg and terminal weight gain was higher than usual
by
13.22kg. This fact suggests that the future education against mothers' wt. gain be essential. The subjects gravida was 2.53 and para was 0.67. It showed the average abortion frequency was about 1.86 times. It also suggests that the continuous
sexual
education for unmarried female and nursing activities for married women including contraceptive measures are very necessary.
@ES 3. Comparison on the subjects' nursing history
@EN The variables such as newborn's Wt, Ht, HC, CC, meconium pass, the 1st day and the day and the 3rd day feeding amount showed statistically significant differences related to feeding troubles in 1st feeding. The variables such as newborns' Ht,
HC,
glucose level, APGAR score and mothers' Ht, para, GP, placenta weight showed statistically significant differences according to delivery patterns.
